Every athlete must adhere to a strict diet before a competition - that includes PayPal's racing turkeys. The Aardman birds need all the energy they can get. Enter ubiquitous television personality Scarlett Moffatt with an ideal solution: Sprout Shakes. Well, no pain, no gain. Cute gag about the drink’s, er, wind power.

Aardman Animation have good form with poultry. 2000's 'Chicken Run' showcased their avian prowess; now the studio have a crack at turkeys. PayPal's athletic rafter each represent a UK charity - audience donations will decide the winner. We can't help but notice Sue Ryder's bird is using roller skates... that calls for a stewards enquiry.

Made in Chelsea’s Mark-Francis Vendelli suffers a fashion faux-pas in this PayPal ad. While his co-star Georgia Toffolo endures I’m A Celebrity, Vendelli takes his new trousers on a test strut. Alas, someone else shares his questionable taste in keks. Good thing the payment app provides instant relief. Not sure flamingos are an improvement…

A bloke tries to undo a tattoo mishap with mixed results in this amusing ad from Paypal. He tries to update the impulse ink of an old flame's name to reflect his new beau... which isn't quite the romantic gesture he thinks it is. Amusing stuff to reflect the brand's promise to refund shipping on returned items - and good to see some casual representation of bisexuality too.

Paypal have shrewdly cast Richard Ayoade's body double in this ad which ties into his 'Travel Man' series. We see the bloke getting ready for his holidays - booking flights, packing the essentials (except clothes), and heading to the airport. He pays for it all via Paypal, of course, although the preoccupation with his phone gets him into hot water at security...

A couple argue over the cheque a bit too enthusiastically in this amusing ad for Paypal - created to pair with Channel 4's 'First Dates'. The waiter may be thoroughly unimpressed with the theatrics (an excellent performance), but it works out well for them as it seems a second date is in the offing. It's a smart way to show off the app's ability to transfer money with just a few details.

Another funny ad from Paypal - this time in conjunction with current Bear Grylls vessel 'The Island' - depicts a camping trip gone wrong. Dad struggles to survive in the wilderness as lighting a fire, catching a fish, and finding shelter fails to go his way. Mum, on the other hand, manages to buy pizza despite not having her purse - all thanks to Paypal's app. Maybe glamping is a better idea next time.

PayPal and Channel 4 ensure Crystal Maze viewers get their zonal fix during the ad break. Before you can say “Will you start the fans, please!”, this woman finds herself grasping for her airborne dosh. Maze Master and narrator Richard Ayoade recommends paperless transactions instead. Fans will appreciate the Richard O’Brien lookalike on CCTV.

This frenetic ad for Paypal continues the established vibe of their 'New Money' campaign: touting the service as the energetic, hip young person's way to pay. The rapid cuts attempt to catalogue every scenario in which we might want to bung someone a tenner, although they don't say much about the brand. Perhaps after their Christmas 2015 controversy Paypal have decided it's best to fly under the radar...

This feels like the kind of thing that should be shown at Paypal's annual conference with thousands of employees mindlessly cheering it on. There's nothing wrong with it particularly - in fact the pace and the music are quite good - but it certainly doesn't further the consumer's understanding of the advertised service or encourage its use.

With Paypal's first Christmas offering now suffering the ignominious fate of only being shown after 9pm, at least their second bite of the mince pie doesn't look as likely to cause a fuss. When this chap falls head over heels for a wireless speaker, his girlfriend seizes the chance to buy the item there and then without his knowledge.

Judging by the angry reaction on social media, Paypal's first Christmas ad looks to have earned them a place on the naughty list of parents everywhere. The ad depicts children cottoning on to the fact that thanks to Paypal, their parents are strangely relaxed around the holidays... while omitting any mention of Santa Claus. Could this be the first Christmas commercial that requires a post-watershed slot? Strangely devoid of festive spirit.

What a wholesome lot this bunch are. Meeting for water and soft drinks in the pub while waiting for the birthday girl to arrive, it turns out Darren hasn't chipped in for the joint present yet which one organised chum has bought at the last minute. What a rascal he is. Luckily, the Paypal app allows for fast and easy money transfers so that crisis is soon solved. Phew.

A man hosts a night watching the footie with his friends and he's been kind enough to order pizza. That's as generous as he'll go however and he's looking for his mates to chip in as well. Luckily, the Paypal app allows for funds to be transferred in a quick and easy fashion. Those who are experts at the art of dodging paying their share have been warned.

Another in the overly fussy campaign for PayPal. While a twangy woman tells us unnecessarily that we can shop in "big stores, little stores, local stores and out of the way stores" black and white cartoon objects pop up to alleviate the dullness of her wandering around a room. It's overly long for what it's telling us, and we still don't like the jingle at the end.

5 May 2014
Another Paypal ad featuring overly busy animations. The various parts of these ads simply don't gel into a coherent whole: there's the strange, dubbed voice to make the accent appropriate for a UK audience; the woman's stilted movements in contrast to the frenetic sketches, and the bolted-on jingle at the end. We think they should go back to the drawing board and start again, more simply.

"Should Be Simple"

2 May 2014
The message is that PayPal is really simple - but the ad is so cluttered it's hard to retain that notion. Doodles depicting rockets and calculus and all the gubbins you have to get through to make a payment online fill up the screen - disappearing for a moment when the Paypal screen appears, only to return with a vengeance after. Exhausting.

This dreary ad uses rhyme in place of an idea to express how useful Paypal is. Handy tip: try not to use the same word to rhyme with itself, ie: "Splash and go / on pizzas to go" because it rather defeats what you are trying to achieve. In other news: who knew you could use Paypal at home and on the move? That should have been the focus.
