Jason Stone
Glenmorangie

"Once Upon a Time in Scotland"

28 January 2025

60s

Perfectly aged.

The conceit behind this commercial for Glenmorangie is that veteran actor Harrison Ford definitely isn't going to do all the clichéd shit associated with ads for whisky when they're filmed in Scotland. Ford can be famously taciturn and grumpy so it plays perfectly to his persona and is much more of a surprise than it otherwise might be when it turns out he has relented.

The implication that this change of heart was prompted by a suitcase full of cash only adds to the comedy of the reveal and who doesn't want to see Ford in a kilt? Even at the age of 82, he cuts a fine figure, and could carry off any sartorial challenge. (Still, it may be as well that his screen dad from Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade wasn't around to witness this sacrilege!)

Harrison Ford is a perfect brand spokesperson for Glenmorangie, because he, like the whisky, has aged well, to say the least... and he has a gravitas that younger stars can only envy.
