Water palaver.
Florence Poppy Deary directs a short and sweet film about an unusual distress signal. When a warship starts sinking, the crew’s ready to send out an SOS… but the captain (Steve Brody) needs time to think. Sure, lives are at risk, but he doesn't want to sound too needy, desperate, or overbearing on the telegraph. So long as his feet are dry, there’s plenty of time to get it right. How about "SOS, but don’t worry if not" (also the title of the film)? Or "We're sinking, no big deal!" Yet by the time the skipper and crew of a fishing boat have read through the message, they'd rather put the kettle on than investigate further. This is what happens when people like the captain overthink matters. It's played for laughs (DAVID needs to use the phrase "Sack it off" more often), but the film also encourages viewers to think about men who find it hard to reach out in real life due to fear of judgment or rejection, embarrassment, shyness, pride, or impatience.
