Middlesbrough gave the world Bob Mortimer, Wendy Richard, and the Tees Transporter Bridge, to name a few. For HunkyDory, one north-east export stands out from the rest: director Neil Gorringe.
One of adland's most dependable talents joins for commercial representation after he was won over by John Doris and co.'s enthusiasm and passion. "I'm thrilled to make a new home at HunkyDory," Gorringe adds, "and I can't wait to get stuck into some new work with them."
So what drew HunkyDory to Gorringe? For starters, he's worked everywhere from Channel [V] in Hong Kong to Channel 4 in the UK, where he shot promos for tentpole series like Black Mirror, Skins, and Ackley Bridge (below). When the stakes are high, Gorringe delivers.
He also has a light touch that makes work like this Cadbury Fingers ad seem effortless. The close-up film celebrates busy hands and fingers, whether they're tying laces, stroking cats, or posting letters. As the advertised biscuits are removed one/several at a time, one gentle snap sums up the product's intergenerational appeal.
Gorringe even knows how to make statistics funny, as shown in this Magners plug. A pulsing soundtrack accompanies what looks like a house party only the cool kids are invited to, but witty on-screen percentages reveal the truth. We've all seen at least one bloke on a night out who 82% fancies himself.
Asif Kapadia, director of 'Senna', 'Amy', and 'Diego Maradona', changes tack with 'Creature', a film based on the English National Ballet production of the same name.
Jinx Godfrey, whose credits include 'Chernobyl', 'The Princess', and 'The Theory of Everything', is available for commercials again at Marshall Street Editors.
