PARK PICTURES SIGN UP-AND-COMER BERND FAASS.
29 July 2019

You could say Bernd Faass is one of the more enterprising directors on the circuit right now. After all, the German - who's recently joined Park Pictures for representation in the UK and US - doesn't just make films: he makes gin, too.

Faass's sideline came about after graduating from the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, where he produced a spec script about an onion being launched into space to swipe god's tears. He thought it would be the perfect fit for a spirits brand... but there were no guarantees that any would bite.

Faass then did what any self-respecting director would do and founded his own dry gin brand, Tears. This allowed him to bring his root vegetable odyssey to life, and Faass hasn't looked back since.

The German's skillset and unconventional career path soon brought him to the attention of Park Pictures and their UK managing director Stephen Brierley, who says: "We're enormously happy to welcome Bernd to Park Pictures. The moment we saw his films, we knew we were watching an early master of his craft at work. Not only that, he's a thoroughly good person. It's a privilege he's chosen to join us and we're excited for what the future holds."

To work with one of the most acclaimed production companies in the world is more than I ever expected from my first years in the business.

 ”

As for Faass, he can't believe the progress he's made: "To work with one of the most acclaimed production companies in the world is more than I ever expected from my first years in the business. And what's even better than that is that they are really lovely people too… so you can say I'm more than proud."
