BLINKINK ADD NG'ENDO MUKII. |
|
25 February 2024 |
|
After the success of animated sci-fi anthology 'Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire' at the 2024 Annie Awards, Blinkink have signed director Ngendo Mukii to the global roster. The Kenyan-born talent wrote episode ten of the Best TV/Media – Limited Series, and shared her thoughts on 'Enkai' at the ceremony. |
"This film is dedicated to women, and specifically to Black and indigenous women of Africa, who are carrying burdens that are too heavy to bear, simply because society believes that our lives are only worth living if we are constantly in service to other people. We can put those burdens down. We can imagine our own freedom."
She relished the opportunity to work with Blinkink at long last. Sam Gainsborough, whose credits include 'Don't Hug Me I’m Scared' and 'The Square-Eyed Boy' for the BBC, directed the stop-motion segments, but she was also blown away by the company's 2D and CGI prowess. Together, they made 'Enkai' an Afrofuturist hit. Mukii's other work includes the animated documentary 'Yellow Fever', which explores Western influences on African women's ideals of beauty, and her 2015 talk, 'Film Taxidermy and Re-Animation', on the indigenous image. Coupled with her professorship at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Mukii is the real deal.
