A TRIO FOR MERMAN
23 July 2020

Merman have scored a hat trick with three new signings to their roster of directors.

The raft of fresh talent includes French brothers Michel + Nico, nature-loving filmmaker William Armstrong, and Irish director Lorcan Finnegan. Let's take a closer look at their work below...

1. Michel + Nico

Brothers and former rugby players Michel + Nico worked as a social worker and architect respectively before becoming self-taught, self-funded filmmakers. As you can tell, they're not afraid of a challenge.

Given their backgrounds, it's no surprise that many of their major campaigns have been sport-focused, as they blend documentary-style visuals with a distinctly cinematic flare. With award-winning ads for the likes of Red Bull and Under Armour under their belts, it's safe to say the pair will only find more success with Merman's support.

2. William Armstrong

Having grown up amongst the scorpions and snakes of Botswana's savannah, the influence of nature on William Armstrong's work is clear. Rugged landscapes and unique terrain appear frequently in his films, with brands such as Hyundai and Jaguar benefiting from his sharp eye for detail.

Boasting work characterised by powerful visuals, measured sound design, and assured editing, Armstrong is also gaining admirers in the promo realm. Whatever form his Merman debut takes, it should be worth a gander.

3. Lorcan Finnegan

Lorcan Finnegan is both a film director and noted still photographer, with his pictures featured in major publications all over the world. This artistic eye lends its influence to his film work, which blends considered visuals with great comic timing and a knack for casting.

Having recently turned his hand to long form filmmaking, Finnegan's second feature film 'Vivarium' has earned positive reviews since its release in March 2020. Add to that a reel of consistently amusing commercials, and Finnegan looks like the real deal.
