 It's the work, stupid.

JASON SMITH IS DED TO US.
26 November 2018

Director Jason Smith has joined the directors roster at DED - the energetic start-up founded earlier this year - for UK representation.

Executive producer Mark O'Sullivan says: "We are very excited to have Jason join us at DED. His global success along with his unique visual style makes this a really dynamic collaboration."

Jason Smith? The name's familiar... where did he work before? Pulse Films.

Oh, that's right. And what does he have to say about his new gig? He's pretty effusive about DED: "These guys have really hit the ground running and I'm excited to be part of it from the beginning. Their approach to the current market is really forward thinking, they're really hard working and know how to have fun!"

He must have picked up some gongs along the way. Indeedy-doody. He was nominated for ‘New Director of the Year' at Cannes Lions, a D&AD for his British Army campaign, BTAA, Cannes, and two AICPs.

What are AICPs? They're the awards handed out by the Association of Independent Commercial Producers... a very big deal in the US.

 ”

Any extra-curricular stuff? He's had shorts included at both the Rushes Short Film Festival and Edinburgh Film Festival, and has even been featured at The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. And he has a documentary feature under his belt - 'Cross Country' which IMDB describes as "the powerful story of acclaimed sculptor Jon Krawzyck's poignant road trip from LA to New York City with his 14ft, stainless steel 9/11 memorial cross strapped to the back of his pick up truck."

Fancy. He was also commissioned by EA sports to develop and direct ‘Need for Speed' - a video game, so he's across all the genres. Which is nice.
