IT'S ROSS COOPER FOR JOHNNY FOREIGNER.

As debut ads go, Ross Cooper's first with Johnny Foreigner is a doozy. When the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship opening ceremony was cancelled due to Covid-19, director Cooper was forced to improvise and craft a five-minute-plus launch film.

The result is a bona fide triumph of practical effects, and what Johnny Foreigner founder Olivia Hirschberg reckons is "the most spectacular piece of filmmaking I've ever been associated with". Even if League of Legends and esports leave you cold, Cooper's effort demands attention.


Cooper says: "Riot Games [the makers of League of Legends] was an epic undertaking and I'm very grateful to Johnny Foreigner that they sent it my way. Olivia and Karen [James] have a genuine appreciation of my craft and I'm looking forward to the creative challenges and opportunities on the horizon."

How Cooper plans to follow up League of Legends is anyone's guess, but it may involve the director's own invention: a chronoramic camera that takes pictures of time rather than space. And DAVID thought his new camera was the dog's bollocks.
