GOH IROMOTO SIGNS FOR CHELSEA IN THE UK |
|
13 November 2022 |
|
When we received a press release revealing that Goh Iromoto had signed for Chelsea in the UK, we assumed that the email was intended for our colleagues on the sports desk. Then we remembered that we don't have a sports desk and, more importantly, that in May this year DAVID editor Jason Stone met Goh in Toronto on the very day that one of the Canadian director's commercials had picked up our coveted Pick of the Day and found him to be extremely pleasant, engaging and humble. |
Those qualities were part of what drew Chelsea UK's Head of Sales Mel Fong to her new signing, but first and foremost it was Goh's reel that caught her eye: "When I first watched Goh’s extraordinary films they resonated so deeply with me. His work is very personal yet talks to everyone. He has an amazingly broad and humanistic background which is clearly woven through all his work. I am extremely proud to be repping Goh and I can’t wait to see him make his mark here." |
“ |
He has an incredible ability to tell stories on a relatable, human level while bringing his very personal aesthetic to every project. |
” |
|
Goh's North American work for Sanctuary in the US, and for Steam in Canada includes impressive work for P&G (below); Toyota; Tim Horton's; Canada Goose; and Sapporo.
The P&G film is unabashedly sweet, depicting the ups and downs of possessing an unusual name in an Anglo-centric culture, and achieves the rare feat of being impressively sentimental without being mawkish. |

Nell Jordan - Chelsea UK's EP - adds: "We are thrilled to have Goh on the Chelsea UK roster. He has an incredible ability to tell stories on a relatable, human level while bringing his very personal aesthetic to every project. We are so excited to introduce him and his breathtaking work to the UK market.” Goh’s work includes short films 'The Canoe' and 'The Wonder' which have gathered garlands and plaudits aplenty... 'The Canoe' (below) is a beautiful study of the cultural importance of the canoe to his homeland. His short films have been chosen as official selections in National Geographic's Short Film Showcase and festivals such as Banff Mountain, Whistler and Doclands Documentary Film Festival. In addition, a number of Goh’s films have been chosen as Vimeo Staff Picks.
Goh Iromoto himself says of this news: "As an individual and filmmaker, I’m someone who greatly values a sense of connection and empathy with who I surround myself with. Be it friends, relationships, creative collaborators, and of course, those who I partner with in representing me. It’s become important to not only have those who can relate to the sense of humanity I aspire towards in my work, but also those that I can go through the journey of film production with a sense of modesty, humility, growth, and certainly, laughter." Plainly, he's identified Chelsea UK as a partner who can meet these requirements.
