Sweetshop director Edward Berger's adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front is not for the faint-hearted. Based on the 1928 novel by Erich Maria Remarque, the film follows wide-eyed teenager Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer) as he joins the Imperial German Army—just another lamb to the slaughter.
The trailer underlines the horror of World War I in no uncertain terms, with Bäumer and his comrades ravaged by trench warfare, mustard gas, and flamethrowers. Berger and DP James Friend also want Netflix viewers to appreciate the texture of war, as you can almost reach out and touch the mud and gore on characters' faces.
Asif Kapadia, director of 'Senna', 'Amy', and 'Diego Maradona', changes tack with 'Creature', a film based on the English National Ballet production of the same name.
Jinx Godfrey, whose credits include 'Chernobyl', 'The Princess', and 'The Theory of Everything', is available for commercials again at Marshall Street Editors.
