NOMINT is thrilled to announce the addition of award-winning animator, writer and director Daniel Gray to their roster. Receiver of prestigious gongs from film festivals including Sundance and the British Animation Awards, Gray is known for his distinctive animation style, which moves seamlessly from sweet and quirky to dark and dread.
We're hoping the image above is from one of Gray's animations and not a portrait of the animator himself. It's from his short film 'Teeth'; a dark and very disturbing tale of a man whose predilection for all things sugary sees off his molars and incisors et al as he ages. On getting dentures, he's inspired by the animal kingdom and sets about creating the perfect set of gnashers... with unexpected results.
Intriguing... what's his background? He was one half of celebrated directing duo Holbrooks (the other half being New-York-based Tom Brown) but they ended up on different continents thanks to various projects they wanted to pursue. Gray now lives in Budapest and is a prominent name on the Eastern European animation scene.
So what Holbrooks work might we know? The duo animated and directed ads for clients including the Red Cross, GE, and Allstate Insurance. For the latter, they brought to life the 'out holding hands' concept which the company supports, promoting unity and togetherness for and among the LGBT community.
It's very striking work - NOMINT must be very happy to have him on board. Gray's definitely a big hitter and his arrival gives their growing roster even more clout. Even when animation takes a back seat to straightforward directing, there's something different about his work - check out this spot for Coke, for instance.
Take a look at Daniel Gray's reel at NOMINT and be sure to check out his award-winning short film T.O.M. while you're there. For more info or to ask about any other directors on the roster, email NOMINT or give Marilena Vatseri a call on 020 7504 1316.
