Having begun his career editing commercials and music promos in his native Denmark, Brandt began studying at the National Danish Film School in 2003 and soon made his first forays into feature film.
Many of Brandt's feature projects have received international acclaim, including a number of awards recognising his editing skills for 'Reconstruction', 'Borgen', and war drama '9 April'. His astute cut of 2014's supernatural thriller 'When Animals Dream' enhances the film's unsettling atmosphere, as the viewer fades in and out of scenes without ever being truly aware of what's real.
Commercially, Brandt has been involved in many successful creative collaborations throughout his career. He edited Andreas Nilsson's multi award-winning Volvo ad 'Epic Split' starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, which went viral online and won six Grand Prix internationally.
Brandt's clever edit, which makes the film appear to be one smoothly executed, unbroken shot, makes the already impressive stunt appear superhuman. A less confident hand may have focused on smaller details, but Brandt lets the big picture speak for itself.
Recently, Brandt was responsible for editing the British Arrows & D&AD award winning BUPA ad 'For Owning The Dancefloor'.
Directed by Martin de Thurah, the uplifting yet understated film focuses on a woman who's successfully come through cancer treatment. Brandt's delicate edit once again utilises his talent for long cuts to let the audience focus on the emotions playing across the woman's face, allowing us to see every moment of joy and thankfulness.
