A NEW EPOCH FOR EPOCH
12 May 2022

US production company Epoch Films have had a presence in London before, but the style and ambition of a new foray suggests they possess a renewed determination to become a major force here. And with a leadership team which includes Martin de Thurah, Megan Campbell and Nick Fewtrell, they have the personnel to succeed.

Prising Martin de Thurah away from Academy Films where he has been on the roster for seventeen years is some signal of intent. He isn't new to Epoch, having been represented in the US by the company for the last eleven years, but it's clear that it was a wrench to leave Academy after such a long association:

"Academy Films was my first production company, before Bacon and Epoch… leaving them in the UK was a hard decision." But he adds that this is "an exciting time in my career, both in terms of directing and thinking about the future. I wish to make beautiful work, mentor younger directors, and be part of building a business culture for Epoch. It feels good to take big life steps into new chapters."

When Mindy and Melissa approached me about launching Epoch in London, I was immediately excited at the prospect of working with such badass women in the industry.

 ”

Martin de Thurah is not alone in stressing the company's determination to find a diverse array of new talent. It appears to be the founding principle of the London office. For instance, Epoch co-founder Melissa Culligan says: "Europe is hungry for new voices. Brands are hungry for new voices - diverse voices that more accurately reflect audiences they’re speaking to. We believe in that mission."

The UK roster will include acclaimed directors from its US roster including DA Yirgou, Dugan O'Neal, Emile Thalund, Emma Westenberg, Hannah Pearl Utt, JILL, Matias & Mathias, Matthew Swanson, Zachary Heinzerling, in addition to de Thurah, as well as recently-signed directors, Carl Sundemo and Ruganzu 'Riggs' Howard.

Europe is hungry for new voices. Brands are hungry for new voices - diverse voices that more accurately reflect audiences they’re speaking to. We believe in that mission.

 ”

Megan Campbell is understandably thrilled to be part of this new enterprise: "When Mindy and Melissa approached me about launching Epoch in London, I was immediately excited at the prospect of working with such badass women in the industry... I’m really looking forward to building the Epoch office with its incredible roster of directors alongside Nick Fewtrell and the amazing extended team in the US.”
