The pair seemed destined to form a creative partnership due to a shared passion for the weird and wonderful. Kamatani worked in video production in Kyoto, and Sawatari studied film in London before they met by chance at Qotori Film Inc. in Tokyo.
A recent promo for Wednesday Campanella's 'Yaku No Jitsugetsubushi' demonstrates how this act of fate has paid dividends to the filmmaking world. The film offers a lovely insight into the pair's aesthetic, as it mixes top-tier CG work, deft touches of animation, and a distinctive sense of visual humour.
Now synonymous with polished commercial campaigns for global brands, Sojiro & Eri remain fearless in their quest for ever-more innovative visuals. Unafraid to dive into kitsch, high-concept, and sweeping work, the sky is well and truly the limit as far as their partnership with Nexus goes.
"Sojiro & Eri are two of the most inventive visual storytellers we've come across - blending live action, visual effects, animation, and design together into artful new forms," explains Nexus founder Christopher O'Reilly. "They're blazing a beautiful trail and we're excited to be working with them on this next stage of their visionary work."
