Philippa Thomas was half of Thomas Thomas long enough for some people to assume that she and the other Thomas were married. So it will be a comfort to the uninformed to discover that Flipt - her new start-up - was created without the need for a messy divorce.
She's joined on her new adventure by Trent Simpson, a producer whose tenacity and commitment over the last few years has impressed the hell out of anyone who pays attention to these things; and directors Tiny Bullet (aka. Tina Bull) and Alex Dunning.
The change was prompted by a desire to reflect the changing market by creating a company of a different shape... one with the ability to meet all of the challenges thrown up by an undulating media landscape. Or as Philippa Thomas puts it: "The script has changed; the boundaries have gone. Put simply, FLIPT is in the business of moving images and we produce them in every form."
This is no longer a coming revolution. It's here. And Philippa has witnessed its impact: "In recent years, as well as award winning commercials, we’ve found ourselves producing everything from six-screen art installations at the Pompidou to virtual reality films which are a permanent exhibition at the BFI. It’s exciting, it’s a bigger creative canvas."
The new company aims to rise to the challenge through agility and the blend of youth and experience which Philippa says is the most effective way of delivering diverse life experiences and perspectives.
