KINSALE TRIUMPH

Through the Guinnessy fog which inevitably shrouds the Kinsale Shark awards, word is slowly reaching DAVID of this year's winners and here are a couple of the themes we've noticed so far.

First, Droga5's David Kolbusz has demonstrated that he practices what he preached in a recent Campaign article and juries are vindicating his approach by issuing gongs aplenty to his agency for its excellent output.

Second, a coincidence-busting number of the emerging talent awards went to directors who've shown off their work on the CraftWorks stage.


So Droga5 did well? The Kwiff work we admired when it aired last month picked up four Gold awards, while their Rustlers film from November last year also picked up the most prized gong.



And what's this CraftWorks connection? Missing Link's Alicia MacDonald and MindsEye's Seb Cardinal were honoured with Best New Director awards. Alicia showcased her winning entry 'Domestic Service' at September's CraftWorks while Seb appeared on our stage in April.

76's Alan Friel - who appeared in our May line-up - picked up a Gold for 'Cake' in the Best International Film... as did Sasha Nathwani of Familia Films, who won despite never having appeared on CraftWorks.

And, at next month's CraftWorks on 11th October, Ian Derry of Archer's Mark will be showcasing Johanna - the short film which won him the only Gold issued in the Best Documentary Short Film category.
