ITV WANTS US TO REMEMBER OUR FRIENDSHIPS

As part of their ongoing effort to remind us to look after our wellbeing, ITV and Uncommon have launched a new initiative that suggests we should close the gap between romantic relationships and friendships by taking our pals out on a date. It's a lovely idea and one that has the potential to persuade us to entirely rethink the friend zone.

Various well known faces from ITV's programming appear, and they each express their enthusiasm for this idea, often in tandem with someone widely perceived to be their friend because of a screen partnership.

In a second film which was broadcast live during Love Island's Aftersun programme, we see Pete Wicks arrive on set to take his best pal Sam Thompson on a 'date'.


This is yet another great idea from a collaboration which seems genuinely determined to tackle problems of alienation and loneliness within our society.

What's particularly impressive is that this appears mainly to be aimed at men, who often less good at this kind of communication, but it wisely keeps its powder dry on whether or not this is gendered communication. This seems, by far, the best way of persuading men to engage with an initiative like this, and we hope it's a great success.
