ANNEX BRING MATEO WILLIS ON BOARD.
2 July 2019

Second takes are a luxury for wildlife director Mateo Willis. After all, nature has little regard for hitting its marks or even making it to set on time. It pays therefore to have guile and near-superhuman patience - qualities that Annex's new signing has in spades.

The company say they are "beyond privileged to have the opportunity to work with someone with the talent and experience that Mateo has in this field", highlighting his work on programmes such as Blue Planet II, Planet Earth II, and Our Planet.

British-Australian Willis's contributions to these shows include capturing footage of elusive snow leopards and waiting weeks for an Arctic glacier to calve - an event he describes as "one of the most intense twenty minutes of my life".

The pace of technological change... enables us to tell more exciting and compelling stories.

 ”

No matter how arduous these shoots get, however, Willis relishes the chance to let technique and nature collide: "You should always be open to the beauty of the story in front of you. Often nature will create something more interesting - more magical - than you could ever have imagined."

Willis's craft also demands that he master ever more sophisticated technology: "The pace of technological change increases year on year and this is part of the challenge - keeping up to date with the latest equipment. But often these advances enable us to tell more compelling and exciting stories."

Naturally, Annex are keen for Willis to share his zeal with a wider range of clients, with the company "excited to be able to offer him to some of the best brands on the planet!"
